RX 6600 and GTA 6: A PC Card From the Console's Architecture Family

An unusually close feature comparison

Sony specifies the PlayStation 5 graphics processor as an RDNA 2 part. AMD's Radeon RX 6600, listed in our catalogue with 8 GB in the entry tier and dated 2021, belongs to that same RDNA 2 family. Graphics work written for consoles of this era assumes the instruction and feature set that RDNA 2 provides: the way shading work is batched, the memory compression approach, the fixed-function blocks for ray work. A card from the same family is not translating those assumptions through an unfamiliar lens the way much older hardware must. What that parity does not buy is capacity or speed. The consoles carry 16 GB of unified GDDR6 with the operating system drawing from the same pool; this is 8 GB devoted entirely to graphics work, which is a different arrangement rather than a smaller version of the same one. AMD also spread this architecture across a wide range of board classes, so sharing a family with a console has never ranked one card against another.

Upscaling is the same class of technique on both sides

FSR is software upscaling: the image is rendered smaller and reconstructed larger, with no special hardware required. That is broadly the category of solution consoles reach for when a frame budget tightens. So the presence of an upscaling path is not a differentiator for this card, and neither is its absence — it is a sign the card and the consoles are playing by the same rules.

The honest limit of all this

Rockstar has announced GTA 6 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, releasing 19 November 2026, and has not announced a PC version or published requirements for any platform. Shared lineage tells you how a hypothetical PC build would be written for this card; it tells you nothing about whether one exists. Anything online offering a GTA 6 download at the moment has a file to sell and no game to put in it.
