Matching the consoles on the count, not on the design
Read the spec line for the Ryzen 5 5600 and the headline figure is six — six cores in the mid tier, in a part AMD dated to 2022, with twelve threads beside them. Hold that against the consoles themselves — Zen 2, eight cores, 3.5 GHz inside PlayStation 5 and 3.8 GHz inside Xbox Series X — and this processor is two cores short on the visible line and one microarchitecture ahead. Zen 2 is the console generation. Zen 3 is what came after it on the desktop.
That combination is the reason this page exists. Two chips that look comparable by core count are not the same object, and the difference between them is not something anyone can put a figure on while no computer build exists.
The serial fraction of a busy frame
Some of the work a game does can be split across every core available. A meaningful part of it cannot: the moment-to-moment decisions that determine what the next frame contains have to finish before the rest of the queue can be handed out, and that stretches out along one thread. A faster per-core design shortens that stretch. A larger core count does not, because the extra cores sit idle while the single stream runs.
Which is why a six-core chip from 2022 is not automatically behind an eight-core chip from 2020, and why console comparisons keep misfiring when they are made on counts alone. Consoles are also fixed machines whose whole configuration is known, so engine work is written against one target rather than thousands.
Where the same figure keeps misleading people
Buyers compare a low-tier six-core to a mid-tier six-core and conclude nothing separates them. Builders look at a hexacore and a 3D-cache eight-core and assume the higher number wins. Both mistakes come from reading a CPU as a quantity rather than as a speed with a quantity attached, which is the wrong order of importance for anything with a serial component.
Nothing has been asked of it yet
No PC edition of GTA 6 has been announced, Rockstar has published no requirements for any platform, and the game reaches consoles on 19 November 2026. Which also means any link claiming to serve that download right now is a fabrication — there is no build for anyone to distribute, and the file at the end of that button belongs to somebody else's purposes.
For the conditional argument, the comparison library sits this chip among its contemporaries, while the FPS estimator turns the specification you already own into an estimate it is obliged to label.
